A Welcome From Pastor Father Frederick Parke
A Vision for Our Catholic School
Assumption School has exhibited substantial growth in recent years because we seek to bring from our "storehouse" both the old and the new. We bring state-of-the-art technology, updated and professional teaching staff with time-tested values and discipline as well as solid, traditional Catholic teaching and devotional experience. A priest does not "visit" the classroom, he teaches along side sisters and lay teachers, using lesson plans from the curriculum. We use The Faith and Life series text (Ignatius Press, Revised Edition) which is approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. After reviewing many religion series for more than thirty five years of parish ministry, I find that this series provides the fullest content of Catholic teaching which is sorely needed in our Catholic Schools. At Assumption School children make visits to the Blessed Sacrament accompanied by sisters in traditional habit in addition to classroom religion classes. Mass and the Sacrament of Penance are offered weekly. Professionals (not volunteers) teach Art, Music, and foreign language as well as Physical Education. These are just some of the things which set us apart from other Catholic Schools. We firmly believe that a Catholic School is more than just a name.
Our Goals
We are first and foremost a Catholic School. We need to remind ourselves of who we are and what we are about - keeping the Lord always on our minds and hearts. Our values come from the Sacred Scriptures - specifically the Commandments and the Gospels. We are guided by the Catechism of the Catholic Church - which all our teachers own and have read. Our teachers are Catholics who have been endorsed by their respective pastors. No teacher will be hired who does not have an endorsement from their pastor. Teachers worship regularly at Sunday Mass and are Eucharistic people, alongside our Catholic School families. Together we create a loving and welcome atmosphere for students and families of all faiths, races and backgrounds. We treat each other with respect as we are all children of God. We also know that in many cases that "God is not finished yet" with the formation of the lives of our students and families. We can have a lasting effect on those precious lives. Teachers, staff and students are called and expected to live the Gospel both on and off our campus.
We are Catholic, worshipping, prayerful and professional. We remind ourselves of this call each day. We pray for and with our students each day. They are entrusted to us that we might enhance their learning and understanding of the educational arts and sciences - and most of all that they are loved by a merciful and just God. We teach them always to submit to the words of Christ and the will of God.
