Athletics
Athletic opportunities at Assumption Catholic School are enjoyed by team members as well as students, parents, and staff spectators. Led by the school’s cheerleaders, school spirit is strong for the Knights seasonal varsity sports. The 2011-12 school year will be the fourth year playing in the Parish Family Center's large state-or-the-art gymnasium. Varsity sports and JV soccer are open to students in grades 5 through 8. Sports include: girls and boys basketball in the fall, JV and varsity co-ed soccer and girls volleyball in the winter, and girls and boys softball in the spring. Teams compete against Catholic schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine.
Assumption Knights have a winning tradition. In the 2010-2011school year boys basketball, volleyball, and co-ed soccer competed in the 2nd round of the diocesan tournament with each team having a winning record. The co-ed varsity soccer team finished with an undefeated 12-0 season winning the championship. The volleyball team won the diosean tournament championship. Many student athletes go on to play junior varsity and varsity sports at Bishop Kenny and other high schools.
Assumption Catholic School has a co-ed Running Club for students in grades 5 – 8. Students who participate may run for personal health and exercise as well as compete in various community races and running events inducing: the Bishop Kenny Cross Country Run, Jingle Bell 5K Race, and the Gate River Run. All students in grades 1 – 8 are invited to participate in the Catholic Grade School Race held annually at Bishop Kenny High School.
Students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to tryout for the Assumption flag football teams. Flag football is a diocesan league that plays on Assumption fields. Every year one team from Assumption plays in a one day round robin tournament held at Assumption. This past year marked the second time Assumption won the championship.
The Assumption Soccer League (ASL) in the fall and the Assumption Basketball League (ABL) in the winter offer opportunities for students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade to develop skills and compete with other students at the same age level. ASL and ABL are open to all students regardless of athletic ability or prior experience.
