Religious Studies and Sacramental Preparation
The primary reason for the existence of Assumption Catholic School is to assist with the Christian development of children and instruction in the Catholic faith. Students at all grade levels take religious studies and are expected to participate in religious activities. Students in grades K – 8 attend weekly Mass. Parents are welcome to attend this school liturgy. Several times during the year students receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Catholic students in second grade prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist during daily religion classes. In addition to the daily instruction of the children, second grade parents participate in special programs which help with the sacramental preparation. Many parents discover that these special programs strengthen and renew their own faith as they prepare their children for First Penance and First Holy Communion.
Preparation for Confirmation begins in seventh grade and continues in eighth grade. Students prepare during daily religion classes and Saturday retreats. Students complete the required number of community service hours and are confirmed sometime in February or March of their 8th grade year.
Assumption School assists in the development of children in the Catholic faith, but parents are the first religious educators and have a duty to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days and fully participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
